The soap opera star warned ECHO that the past was about to repeat itself.
David Platt’s future has been revealed by Jack P. Shepherd of Coronation Street.
Since beginning to portray the role in 2000, the soap opera star has become one of Corrie’s most recognizable characters. This week, the character at Madame Tussauds Blackpool was turned into a wax figure, cementing his status as an iconic figure.
At the unveiling, Jack spoke with the ECHO and revealed some information about his character’s upcoming events. As a result of his new role as Max Turner’s father, David has developed as a character on the show in recent seasons.
Although he is no longer the tearaway teen he once was, he claimed that history may soon be repeated on the Cobbles. Max is turning 16 and I don’t think he has as much control over him as you would have if they were 15 years old, so I think he’s going to find it really difficult with what’s coming up, he said.
Max can legally have more freedom, so I predict David will start running into the same issues Gail did with him.
At the unveiling, the ECHO also spoke with Janet, Jack’s proud mother. She showered her son with praise and gushed about how different he was growing up from his rebellious on-screen counterpart. He used to spend the entire day watching movies in front of the TV and was very quiet at home, she continued.
He didn’t resemble his character at all. Janet jokingly observed that the way he interacts with his on-screen mother, Gail Platt, does occasionally cause the lines to blur.
Occasionally, the body language and when he speaks to Gail, she said. For instance, he asked me “Mum,” “why are you crying,” when I started crying at the wax sculpture. Gail would hear him speak in that way.
Jack, who has played a significant role in several of the series’ most important plotlines, claimed that the soap opera’s willingness to take on any topic head-on is the secret to its continued success. “The show has been running for 60 years because Corrie wouldn’t be afraid to touch any subject,” he claimed.
They always cover topics and stories that are relevant to day-to-day life, so long may that continue.
