EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street drug lord Damon Hay will soon be back in Weatherfield tormenting Nick Tilsley and his family.
Damon Hay (played by Ciaran Griffiths) was recently caught by police after he began funnelling drugs through Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Leanne Battersby’s (Jane Danson) restaurant The Bistro. However, official Coronation Street spoilers reveal Damon resurfaces in Wethersfield and could be set to drag down a family who have just got back on their feet.
Prior to his arrest, Damon was able to establish a stronghold within Nick’s family and form an unlikely friendship with Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan).
Sam was unaware that Damon was the brother of Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor), the man who murdered Sam’s mother Natasha Blakeman (Rachel Leskovac).
Sam was indignant when he learned that Damon had been detained and that his father had been collaborating with him and borrowing money from his mother’s killer.
Nick’s actions also made Leanne feel betrayed, so she decided she needed some distance from him and kicked him out of the house.
Official spoilers indicate that Damon’s return will further devastate the Weathefield family, but Corrie executive Ian MacLeod hinted that Damon might “uupend” another family.
He is a dangerous character at first, he might seem to be a bit more of a sophisticated operator than Harvey, less of a blunt instrument, Ian said in a statement to Express.co.uk and other media.
“However, what we find is that a more polished, jocular exterior only serves to conceal something just as brutal and dangerous as Harvey.
“So yeah, he really brings some criminality into a family that could probably use getting over their past. He upends a lot of people’s lives.
“But suddenly, wham they’re right back in the mess again, thanks to him and as the year goes on, there’s something about a bad boy isn’t there?
“I think it’s fair to say and he’s got this kind of magnetic attractions for a notable high-profile female character in the show.
“Who ends up having a head turned in a way that has very far-reaching consequences.”
What family will fall victim to Damon’s crimes?
After relapsing, learning she was pregnant following a one-night stand with Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo), and almost losing her relationship with Kevin Webster, Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) had a turbulent year in 2017. (Michael Le Vell).
Could Abi fall into Damon’s trap and lose everything once again if she gets in on his drug business?
If she relapses once more, will this be her final fall?
Ian continued, “It would be a major culture clash, Abi, who’s you know, even though we’ve smoothed out some of the rough edges is still rough.
Sarah Platt and Adam Barlow’s relationship (played by Tina O’Brien) may also be in trouble (Samuel Robertson).
Sarah is initially incensed when Adam agrees to assist Damon and accepts the position of his solicitor, but she soon comes to like his charming personality.
According to a recent Metro.co.uk interview with actress Tina O’Brien, “I think there probably is an attraction there. He has that freedom because he is unaware of her existence.
“I’ve been looking for a moral justification for Sarah’s actions, but I’m not really sure there is one,” the author said.
