Star of Corrie In the most recent plot of the ITV Soaps, Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie Winter, is defending con artist Fern Lindon from accusations of jewelry theft.
As Christmas approaches in Weatherfield on Coronation Street, soap opera star Jane teased another plot for the Winter-Brown family. The plot twist will be related to the Bernie’s Lookalike storyline, in which Fern Lindon (played by Gabrielle Claister) stole jewelry valued at thousands of pounds while pretending to be Bernie.
The actress, who has been a part of the ITV mainstay since 2019, announced earlier this month that the current plot will be wrapping up soon.
Times are difficult for the WInter-Brown family, Jane revealed in an interview with TV Times Magazine.
To keep that house warm and those babies fed, she said, “Many pennies must be found.
“The Winter-Browns’ financial concerns will persist, particularly with Christmas rapidly approaching.”
Bernie, the mother of recurring characters Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) and Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell), expressed her desire for the soap opera to include Gemma and Paul’s father in the plot.
She said, “I’d love to know who he was, but he could be anyone.”
Although a plot like this might reveal more about Bernie’s past, it might also cause friction in her sporadic relationship with Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin).
“What I love about Bernie is that in the flip of a coin, she’s going down a road she shouldn’t have gone down, and embracing it in all of her tie-dye,” the soap opera star said.
This might be the most recent plot turn in the character’s development as the lookalike storyline comes to an end.
Jane acknowledged, “I don’t know what the writers have in mind for Bernie and Dev.
“I love working with Jimmi, so I’d like to think they can last the distance.”
ITV executives have described Jane as “an old raver who still sees herself as a free spirit,” and Jane acknowledges that she would like to see some of this backstory explained.
When Gemma and Paul’s father was first introduced in the program, Jane said, “I like to think she met him at Glastonbury.”
This new character, who struggled as a parent to Gemma and Paul, might start new family feuds and add more drama to the much-loved cobbles.
Having previously mentioned to a Corrie writer that she frequently gets confused for co-star Gabrielle Glaister, who plays Fern, Jane was involved in the lookalike plot. Jane expressed her sadness about the plot’s conclusion by saying, “It’s been so much fun.
Bernie and Fern’s final showdown last week marked the end of the lookalike storyline.
Bernie, Gemma, and Dev deceived Fern into believing she was meeting up with her ex-husband Howard Lindon after being told the only way to avoid prison would be for Bernie to enter a guilty plea (Gordon Peaston).
Bernie and the others confronted Fern after she arrived carrying the jewelry.
After the case was postponed, Fern was arrested by Craig Tinker (Colson Smith).
