Fans of Coronation Street can expect to see Stephen Reid take advantage of Elaine Jones’ history of abuse.
Fans of Coronation Street have observed the killer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) getting closer to Elaine Jones over the past few weeks (Paula Wilcox). However, given that her previous relationship was with his controlling and abusive father Geoff Metcalfe, her son Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) is beginning to worry for his mother (Ian Bartholomew).
It is well known that Tim has had difficulty accepting the fact that his father is a villain because Tim steadfastly stood by his side before finally realizing his father’s true nature.
Tim may have some trouble trusting the men in his life because he was unable to recognize the true nature of his father’s monsterhood.
Tim is suspicious as his mother Elaine and Stephen enter the cafe together in scenes that will air the following week.
She responds to her son’s protectiveness by assuring him that Stephen is not his father and taking a stand for him by saying that Stephen is as honest as the day is long.
They are unaware, though, that Stephen is trying to cover up the fact that he accidentally killed Leo Thompkins (Joe Frost) in an effort to prevent his lies from being discovered.
Later, as Tim describes the terrible experience his mother had with Geoff, Stephen is questioned by Tim about his intentions with his mother.
The conman shares that his father used to control Elaine, gathers this information, and then decides to make use of it in the future.
Sarah is devastated when a meeting with a potential investor goes wrong, and Gail and Audrey pressure Stephen to invest the £10k his niece needs, despite the fact that he is broke, in the Cobbles.
Stephen pulls a cruel prank on Elaine to make her feel bad for him after recalling the information Tim shared about Geoff manipulating Elaine.
He disguises an abusive text message he sends to himself as coming from his ex-wife Gabrielle (Helene Maksoud), to whom he owes a sizable debt.
Elaine reads the message and speculates that Gabrielle is using gaslighting tactics on him because he claims to deserve the treatment.
Elaine decides she wants to assist him after telling him that she, too, was in an abusive relationship.
A dejected Stephen is compelled to accept Adam Barlow’s offer to take Six Fellas to court for the injuries he suffered while delivering food and being robbed out of his desire to help Stephen.
Sarah reveals that she and Michael have everything set up and the company will be operational as soon as they receive his £10,000.
How will Stephen’s spiral of lies play out as he is forced to cough up a staggering amount of money he doesn’t have, though, given that he doesn’t have much to his name?
According to a theory put forth by thesuns.info, Stephen plans to use Elaine as his next victim to fleece her of her money.
The conman may use her history of abuse as leverage as he fabricates new lies about how he needs money to move on from his past, not realizing that the money would be going directly into her pocket.
When Radio Times asked actor Todd Boyce if he thought Stephen could kill once more, Todd Boyce responded, “I do think he [could].
He is simply driven. He has a somewhat type-A personality and is always in a state of desperation, and desperados do desperados things.
The end justifies the means because now that he has done it once, it won’t even hurt him as much the next time.
