Max Turner (Paddy Bever) faced the consequences of his actions in tonight’s episode of Coronation Street, as he was charged with incitement for attempted murder.
This week saw Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) stabbed by Max’s former bully, Blake, who claimed to have been inspired by Max’s racist videos.
Max, who had been groomed by Griff (Michael Condron) into joining his extremist far-right group, claimed that he had made the videos as a warning to people, but that he never meant for anyone to go out and commit violent offences.
He told his family this, then later relayed it to the police, after being arrested.
Insisting that he wasn’t racist, Max explained how he had felt lonely and worthless, after the brutal killing of mum Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) when he was nine-years-old. He said that Griff had come along and made him feel like he wasn’t alone.
He argued that he didn’t tell Blake to watch his videos, and that he didn’t tell him to stab Alya, so it couldn’t have been his fault.
Despite this, police felt that there was enough evidence to charge him with the crime.
Does this mean that an exit is on the cards for Max, as he is sent down for his actions?
According to producer Iain MacLeod, Max may be sticking around for longer than we think.
He will over the course of 2023 realise the error of his ways.
‘A lot of what we’re doing after that is about him being deprogrammed and un-brainwashed.
There is a redemption on the horizon for him after what he’s been through. The after effects, like with all stories, last for a very long time after that.’
With Coronation Street set to explore the after effects of Max’s grooming into a far-right organisation, perhaps an exit isn’t on the cards just yet.
