As Justin (Andrew Still) continues to stalk Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) in Coronation Street, Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) remains in a position where he isn’t quite sure what to do next.
The beloved character is doing his best to protect Daisy but ultimately, Justin is continuing to find ways of targeting only her, leaving Daniel incredibly out of his depth.
He’s done what he’s best at, approaching the situation in a calm manner and hoping the power of words will be enough to scare Justin away, but ahead of the next part of this storyline that will see the stalker target Daisy in an acid attack, Rob Mallard has been telling us we could, once again, see the darker side to Daniel resurface.
‘Justin is threatening the two people that he loves the most – Daisy and Bertie. He hasn’t really had a reaction from Daniel other than Daniel taking him to one side to have a word with him. Justin thinks that he is not going to get any resistance from Daniel, so he is going to keep pushing him. But Justin is about to find out that there is a line with Daniel and this week Justin will cross it.’
Rob continued, “Daniel would describe Justin as creepy and a little pathetic.”
Because of his experiences with Sinead, Daniel experienced an Achilles heel moment when Justin revealed that his mother had terminal cancer. Daniel has a soft spot for Sinead because he recalls how badly things got out of hand after she was diagnosed with cancer and how, in the days that followed, he went and did some very strange things.
So Daniel certainly thought that Justin might be spiralling out of control at the thought of losing someone to cancer. Daniel checked himself in that moment and thought, “I need to sober up Justin gently and remind him that what he is doing isn’t normal and he will live to regret it.” However, Justin exploited this because he knew that it would be a weakness for Daniel.
When it comes to the situation as a whole, treading carefully and being incredibly understanding is ultimately the focus for Daniel right now, as he’s fully aware one wrong move or one wrong word to Daisy could put their relationship in jeopardy again.
‘Daniel doesn’t respond in the way that Daisy needs him to. We have seen in the past that when she had the cancer scare, Daisy dumped Daniel because he didn’t react in the way she needed him to. Daniel is now very wary of how he responds to things, but I don’t even think Daisy knows what she wants from Daniel because she knows there is not much he can do about Justin.
‘It’s a strange situation where Daniel is trying to do the right thing, but he keeps doing and saying the wrong thing every time.’
