Icon for CORONATION STREET Since Hayley Cropper passed away, Roy Cropper has done an excellent job of preserving her memory. He might soon experience heartbreak, though, when he realizes he’s misplaced one of Hayley’s most cherished pieces of clothing.
Since the passing of his wife Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) in 2014, Coronation Street regular Roy (played by David Neilson) has surrounded himself with a lot of close friends. Many of them were familiar with Hayley, but friendships with people like Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) and Bernie Winter (Jane Hazelgrove) have helped Roy develop new traits. In contrast, Roy worries in later scenes when he discovers Hayley’s cherished anorak is missing, which could cause him to be heartbroken if he has lost it permanently.
According to official spoilers, Bernie will convince Nina to deep clean Roy’s apartment for his birthday because he is desperate for some extra money the following week.
Bernie suggests they give the old box of clothes they find as they move through the apartment to a charity after they come across it.
Nina concurs but is unable to see Hayley’s recognizable red anorak in the box as it is being sent away from Roy’s line of sight.
Roy probably still has Hayley’s anorak in his possession because she was known for carrying it everywhere she went and wearing it constantly.
What will he do when he realizes that he no longer has her anorak?
Later on in the week, Roy receives a model train as a birthday gift from Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman), who pays him a visit.
Roy, however, recognizes the set as his own and starts to wonder how Evelyn was able to obtain it.
When she realizes that Hayley’s anorak must have been donated to the same charity shop as the train set, she asks Roy to start the vehicle.
She marches down to the charity shop and rips the anorak off of Joy because she doesn’t want to see her friend sad on his birthday or lose his fond memories of his wife.
Evelyn’s interaction with Joy leaves her perplexed, but she moves quickly to give the iconic anorak back to its one and only owner.
By giving Roy his anorak back, Evelyn might feel as though she has saved the day, but how will Roy respond once he discovers that it was actually stolen?
Roy might become upset that Bernie and Nina searched through his belongings without first getting his consent and end up jeopardizing their friendship.
Roy, however, might have already realized the anorak was gone and finally accepted parting with it.
Roy might experience heartbreak on his birthday if Evelyn returning the item brings up emotions that he has suppressed over the years.
Will Roy appreciate their efforts, or will they suffer the consequences?
Hayley was the first transgender character in a British soap opera when she made her debut in the ITV soap in 1998.
Roy was deeply affected by her tragic death, and viewers have seen him still struggling with losing her today.
Roy held Hayley as she drank a fatal cocktail to end her suffering and died in his arms.
Will Roy be able to move on from the anorak incident, or will it cause more trouble than Roy had anticipated?
