After Beth Tinker’s assault on Hope Stape catches up with her, viewers of Coronation Street could see a split in the cobblestones.
Since Cilla the Chinchilla died after being killed by Peanut the dog, viewers of Coronation Street have witnessed tension between Hope Stape, played by Isabelle Flanagan, and Beth Tinker, played by Lisa George. Beth went too far, slapping the youngster for her actions as her rage and frustration increased.
The cunning child took matters into her own hands and made up Beth’s dog biting her in order to exact revenge on Hope’s beloved new pet Cilla after Peanut killed the animal.
As Hope arrived home to inform her mother Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) and Tyronne (Alan Halsall) that Beth had slapped her in the face, Beth became enraged at her lies, and the two argued in the street.
Beth vehemently denied the accusations and assured them that she’d never do such a thing, despite the fact that the child wasn’t telling the truth very often.
Hope stormed out of the house while Beth followed her, revealing the truth that her mother had indeed smacked her. Hope was enraged that her mother was ignoring her claims.
Beth apologized for hitting her and offered to give her and her dog as many hugs as they wanted, but Hope was able to con her out of money in exchange for silence.
Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan), a friend of hers, decided to let Tyrone know that Hope was telling the truth after she later revealed to him that Beth had slapped her.
Fiz and Tyrone decide to have a romantic lunch at home in scenes that will air the following week. They are shocked to discover Hope there after skipping school.
Hope whimpers and begs her mother not to hit her as Fiz moves closer to her daughter, leaving her speechless at the idea.
They confront Beth for hitting their child and then lying about it after realizing Hope had been telling the truth all along.
Beth apologizes to Hope in a letter that she gives to Fiz to give to Hope, but it seems that Kirk, Beth’s partner, still can’t get over Beth hitting a child.
She is devastated and confides in Maria, Kirk’s sister (Samia Longchambon), asking for advice about their relationship.
Beth decides to remind Kirk that she is a good person on the inside after listening to her advice.
Beth expresses her love for Kirk by sharing a number of special memories from their time together.
After learning that she hit Hope and then lied about it, he admits that he still needs more time to process the gesture, despite the fact that he is touched by it.
In spite of Beth’s claims that she threw a letter from Macro away, the couple still fights, suggesting that another unidentified person is contributing to their conflict.
Later, when Krik considers moving out due to the tension between them, they both realize that’s not what they want and decide to put their differences behind them.
The boss of Coronation Street, Iain MacLeod, revealed that they will take Hope in a different direction over the course of the year, despite the fact that viewers have seen her more evil side over the years.
He said: “She’s definitely not going to continue down such a troubled path,” during an appearance on ITV’s Loose Women.
“We thought actually we’ve done some very dark and twisted things with that character, and okay, that will still be part of her, but for the next 12 months, we’re going to do normal pre-teen stuff.
“We’re going to be building a friendship with her and Sam that will verge on a very innocent pre-teen romance a little bit and they try to navigate those waters.
“It will always have a Hope twist on it because she’s maybe wired a bit differently than most kids her age… but we’ll see a more down-to-earth grounded side of her.”
