Coronation Street viewers were left heartbroken when Jacob made an unexpected departure from Weatherfield at the start of the year.
Last month, Coronation Street viewers watched as Jacob Hay (played by Jack James Ryan) left the ITV soap as things started to heat up with his criminal dad Damon (Ciarán Griffiths). As his absence is noticeable in the drama, fans predict he’ll be making a comeback soon.
After the former bad boy turned his life around by landing a respectable job and permanently giving up crime, things started to look up for Jacob.
But when his father arrived, Jacob’s new peaceful way of life came to an abrupt end, forcing him to relapse into the drug trade.
He owed his father £50,000 and promised to pay it back before the dealers found out, but Damon was having none of it.
He advised his son to permanently leave the cobbles out of respect for his girlfriend Amy.
Jacob was last seen crying as he got into a taxi after his father threatened to bury him if he was seen on the streets once more because he didn’t want anything bad to happen to her.
Some believe viewers haven’t seen the last of Jacob, and some are adamant he’ll return after the recent events with his dad, despite the fact that his exit left many fans inconsolable.
Before other Coronation Street viewers addressed rumors of a comeback, social media user Haggisboy expressed disappointment about the character’s departure on a Reddit thread.
None that I am aware of, but his biological connections to Damon, Harvey (Will Mellor), and Sharon (Tracie Bennett) should mean there is a simple route back in the event that they ever want Jacob to return. There is still much of the plot to be resolved, such as the fact that Amy and Simon (Alex Bain) have not yet been informed that he is Harvey’s nephew. It will be interesting to see where the show takes Amy, as her continued single status might be their attempt to keep Jacob’s door open.
Impossible-Hawk768: said: “Damon, Harvey and Sharon are “side characters” though. Damon probably won’t be around for long, and Harvey and Sharon only do cameos once or twice a year. That doesn’t really constitute an “easy way back” for Jacob, since his own ties to the Street are stronger than all of theirs combined. His relationships with Amy, Summer and Aaron, and his ties to Underworld, are better openings for him to come back. Which I hope he does.”

On Twitter, user Margaretannkea1 shared her views on the possibility of a comeback as she wrote: “Surely he is going to come back and save the day at the bistro.”
With RyanTheSoapking adding: “I wish they’d bring back Jacob. #Corrie”
Damon has kept using the Bistro to distribute drugs ever since Jacob left, and owner Nick Tisley (Ben Price) was made aware of the plan just before Jacob left.
Tensions reached an all-time high this month when Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) was held at gunpoint by two men searching for the hidden drugs.
Even though they all made it out of the situation unscathed, Nick and Leanne (Jane Danson) had to keep the drugs at their house to avoid drawing the attention of the police.
Nick eventually persuaded Damon to take the bag, and after he called the police, the criminal was taken into custody on Class A drug charges.
Speaking to RadioTimes, actor Jack James Ryan confessed he felt as though it was a good time to leave the show
He commented: “I’m still young, and there’s so much stuff that I want to go and do. I also felt like I had come and done what I intended to do.
“We talk about the Corrie bingo cards, like where you tick off things you’ve done.
“I’ve come in, I’ve played the villain, I’ve had my redemption arc, I got to punch Steve McDonald, I went to prison, I even moved into 1 Coronation Street with Ken Barlow! You can’t get much better than that.”
