Following Stephen Reid’s accidental drugging, Coronation Street viewers weren’t impressed.
On Thursday’s Coronation Street episode, Todd Boyce’s character Stephen Reid received a dose of his own medicine when he drank the tea that was spiked and meant for Carla Connor (Alison King). A few familiar faces from the Canadian businessman’s past returned to haunt him as he began to experience the effects of the drugs.
Stephen has been infusing LSD into Carla’s tea for the past few weeks in an effort to make her appear inept to her coworkers.
The serial killer has been drugging the Underworld boss in an effort to take over her business, but on Thursday night it all went wrong.
In a meeting with Sarah (Tina O’Brien), Carla, and Stephen prior to the big Nippersnapper presentation, it was discovered that the boss had not drank from the cup containing the drugs.
When Stephen entered the stage, it was obvious that he had accidentally drugged himself because he wasn’t sure if it was him or his niece, Sarah, who had consumed the drugged beverage.
Leo Thompkins (Joe Frost) and his father Teddy appeared in multiple faces as Sarah’s face “melted” and his vision blurred as the drugs began to take effect (Grant Burgin).
He ran into his hotel room to hide after seeing the two men he’d killed covertly over the previous few months.
He continued to see Teddy and Leo in the space and experience flashbacks of their deaths, so the hauntings didn’t end there.
Stephen curled up into a ball as he repeatedly yelled his regret for his crimes, consumed with guilt over what he had done.
The unexpected return of the two dead characters, however, did not impress many Coronation Street viewers, who thought the entire episode was a joke.
What’s going on, asked ProRoyalFamily? #Corrie”
“Seeing Teddy and Leo in Stephen’s LSD trip was weird,” said mishybabez_.
Who else is laughing aloud at Steven’s ridiculous, fantastical Leo & Teddy hallucinations, PrithaBardhan continued.
KimberleyW1983 tweeted: “This episode of #corrie is unintentionally HILARIOUS”
MatthewMitt6 swiped: “F***in hell that was genuinely hilarious and that sketch of Leo #corrie”
MatthewMitt6 commented: “That was hilariously stupid”
With Stephen now feeling the effects of the drugs he’s been using on Carla and the intensity of them, could he now see the error of his ways?
Actor Todd Boyce touched on whether or not his character has murderous intentions with lacing Carla’s tea.
He said: “This is not a premeditated plan to kill someone, this is to get her out of the way of the business.
“He knows there are some machinists with shares in the company, and he just needs to mobilise them and make them think she is not capable of doing the job.
“It’s pretty ingenious, and Carla has annoyed him so much that he doesn’t care what it is going to do to her.
“It is a relatively short-term plan to start with, just to sow the seed of doubt with everyone. He plans to do it over a period of time so it looks like she is having real problems.”
