In upcoming scenes, Evelyn Plummer of Coronation Street will say goodbye to a beloved character.
ITV viewers can expect to witness sadness in Coronation Street the following week as Evelyn Plummer (played by Maureen Lipman) bids her devoted dog Cerberus farewell. A feud in Weatherfield is expected, though, as Roy Cropper’s (David Nielson) fatal oversight may have been the cause of the death.
Viewers of the ITV soap opera will soon see Evelyn visiting Roy in the cafe with her dog Cerberus in tow.
Roy apologizes for missing her birthday party and then goes on to discuss the current issues Carla Barlow (Alison King) is dealing with.
Carla’s behavior has alarmed her friends and family, who fear that her psychosis has returned, as the Underworld boss is being drugged by serial killer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce).
She also might go to jail as a result of a recent incident in which she collided with Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) while operating her van without insurance.
Later, when Cerberus doesn’t seem interested in eating, Evelyn becomes worried.
Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall), Evelyn’s grandson, begins to worry about the dog when it continues to be ill despite being by her side for many years.
They insist on taking Cerberus to the vet, so they are shocked when the doctor says the illness may be caused by food poisoning.
As a result, Roy admits that he dropped an Eccles cake in the cafe and is concerned that the dog might have eaten it.
Evelyn, fuming at her friend and worried about her pet, threatens Roy that she will never forgive him if anything happens to Cerberus.
But when the veterinarian informs her that Cerberus is currently experiencing kidney failure, her worst fear is confirmed.
Roy feels guilty as he tells Nina Luca (Mollie Gallagher) he’s throwing his phone away as Evelyn calls the cafe a death trap.
According to Roy, Cerberus might still be alive if he hadn’t been sidetracked by the gadget and hadn’t dropped the cake.
Speaking to Digital Spy about the upcoming scenes, the 76-year-old revealed the storyline hits close to home.
She said: “’It’s really sad. I had to say goodbye to my real dog on Zoom so it wasn’t much of a stretch to imagine this.
“I really liked Cerberus, Boss is his name and he’s a lovely dog, seriously sweet-natured and an incredibly beautiful hound.
“Gorgeous. It was as if he had an inkling that he was being written out! He was a bit subdued for a couple of days. He was valiant and that made it even sadder.”
