Emmerdale is going to experience an explosive Christmas and New Year as a new Dingle moves into the community and causes problems for several locals.
The residents of Emmerdale may be anticipating a quiet Christmas, but viewers of soap operas know that is never the case. It’s going to be a busy and dramatic holiday season with family visits, menopause issues, and Paddy Kirk (played by Dominic Brunt) getting ready for his first Christmas alone.
A new Dingle arrives in the village
On Christmas Day, Cain (Jeff Hordley) receives a visitor in jail and meets his brother Caleb face-to-face.
Caleb and Cain exchange long, intense looks before Caleb finally communicates with Cain.
After being told Faith (Sally Dexter) had passed away 30 years earlier, he expresses his surprise at learning she had actually just passed away.
Caleb demands to know why Cain betrayed him and denied him the opportunity to meet his family.
Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), a character in the village, leaves gifts and a birthday present for Belle (Eden Taylor Draper).
When Belle and Mandy (Lisa Riley) act coldly toward her, Chas is left feeling lonely and depressed.
She goes to the Woolpack expecting it to be empty because she wants some privacy but is shocked to see Paddy there celebrating Christmas with Eve and Marlon’s (Mark Charnock) family.
Marlon thanks everyone for helping him get better, and Paddy and Chas agree to a cease-fire for their daughter.
Chas eventually has enough of the awkward atmosphere and leaves to go to her daughter’s grave.
She ignites her mother’s fireworks as a complete stranger approaches her and drops a bombshell.
A flashback to 1991 reveals what transpired between Caleb and Cain as Cain gets ready to see Moira the following day while serving time in prison.
Paddy struggles with his mental health
Paddy is under increasing stress as he tries to keep up with his work, but he accidentally overdoses Vinny’s (Bradley Johnson) dog on sedatives.
He starts crying as he sits in his car and realizes that he is having trouble dealing with the consequences of Chas’s betrayal.
Bernice Blackstock struggles with her menopause
Liam Cavanagh (Johnny McPherson) begins his first visit of the day at the Dingles on Christmas Day.
After failing to decline a plate of food and feeling overstuffed from the Dingles’ feast, he moves on to Holdgate, his next stop.
She informs Liam they have plenty of food saved for him as he travels to the last stop at Bernice’s.
Liam realizes he needs to take action to stop himself from eating more as Bernice removes a towel from the plate of food.
Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) sneaks away during the party’s peak hours to enjoy a private Christmas dinner.
While Leyla struggles with being alone, Bernice and Liam share an intense moment that culminates in a kiss.
Later, Bernice feels as though her family is making fun of her menopause symptoms and gets irritated with her sister Nicola (Nichola Wheeler) for interfering in her life.
She indulges in self-pity before deciding to seek assistance.
Bernice, however, is unimpressed with the assistance provided and believes that the way we talk about menopause needs to change.
